Won Contest - Made Artisan, Cut-Metal Grape Leaf Shovel Used in Ground-Breaking Ceremony for New U of MN Art Building!
A
VERY COOL QUOTE, from my Mom Trudy DuBois, regarding her choices for
the creation of this art shovel! I just found it tonight, in an October
12, 2000 article (by Erin Madsen) of the Minnesota Daily (University of
Minnesota) school newspaper! [I remember seeing a picture of her shovel
in the actual groundbreaking ceremony. I hope to find it, and post it
later! For now though, there's this!] ~
University officials, faculty and project coordinators chose 14 art students to design shovels to break ground.
Trudy DuBois, an art senior who participated in the funding rallies, designed her shovel in the shape of a grapevine which she compared to art and artists.
"Historically,
(the grapevine) is a spiritual thing," she said. "It's one thing that's
indigenous to most land, gives life, and weathers everything."
Mom, how could you be SO cool? :)
Eventually, my Mom decided to paint a watercolor of her shovel, too! :)
